Printer Buyers Guide - Choosing a Printer
You will need to know the following before choosing a printer:
- Do you prefer to buy the latest technology?
- Is your primary consideration is cost, value, or technological capabilities?
Since there are so many kinds of printers, you will want to narrow down what you primarily need to print most often:
Do you need a printer...
- ...to print photos from my digital camera
- ...for every day home use
- ...for a busy office workgroup
- ...for other office tasks (copy, scan, or fax)
If you prefer to select printers by cost, you still need to look for a printer that has the capabilities for your print needs. For example, you can print digial photos on all kinds of printers. And then, there are specialty photo printers to print them in "photo sizes". Be sure you don't buy a photo printer if you also want to print letter sized documents!
Other considerations for printer buying:
- Do you need to network the printer in order to share it with more than one user/computer?
- Would you need a wireless network ready printer?
- Will you ever need to print pages larger than a letter (8.5 x 11)? This will require a higher cost printer!
Also, when you find a printer you like, be sure to check out what you will be paying for toner or ink cartridges. It's a well know industry practice to sell printers for a low cost, in order to regain the profit in the ink cartridge sales!
There is help for you if you can't decide on which printer to buy! Go over to PC Universe and use the printer buying tool. This tool will show you printers that meet your specifications and allows you arrange the results by price, brand or model.
